The Association of Friends and Supporters of TU Dresden e. V. (GFF) presented the teaching awards for the 2023/2024 academic year. The winners of the eight selected teaching and learning formats received their certificates from GFF President Professor Manfred Curbach and Managing Director Dr. Undine Krätzig. In total, the teachers and teams present were awarded in three categories: the GFF 2024 Teaching Award, the Student Teaching Award and, for the first time, a separate teaching award for teacher training programs.
The Association has been awarding prizes for outstanding achievements in the field of education and training for many years. The annual awards in various categories are intended to create incentives for improving teaching at TU Dresden and provide impetus for new ideas and concepts. Once again, all university members were invited to submit proposals.
From these, the GFF Executive Board, together with the Vice-Rectorate Education, selected the following award winners:
Helene Müller and Nicholas Boost - Entrepreneurship
The aim of the course is to teach students about the real entrepreneurial challenges faced by start-ups and to enable them to classify these independently. The high practical orientation of the course, combined with the opportunity to get to know network partners in the region at an early stage, convinced the jury to award this course with the teaching prize.
Tabea Hörnlein - Teaching Award of the GFF 2024
The seminar Theater in der Schule "was particularly successful in enabling students to gain their own experience at the interface between professional theaters, schools, independent theater and the network office." The chosen non-university venues gave them the opportunity to learn from stakeholders, transfer their own concepts and try them out with students.
Junior Professor Nora Huxmann - NewCityConcepts: Structural change in Hoyerswerda
The "New City Concepts" (NCC) project aims to develop innovative, integrative and participatory approaches for future urban development in Hoyerswerda. By embedding the project in a real participation process, the students had the opportunity to prepare workshops in order to enter into discussion and exchange with local citizens.
Kiara Schwarz - Accompanying lecture for engineers of excellent reputation
In the introduction, students not only receive information about the organization of their studies, but also about the faculty and important contact points at TUD: "Kiara guided us through the first semester, showed us the various online portals of the university and prepared us for the examination phase. Overall, her commitment goes far beyond the above-mentioned lecture."
Louis Thill - Tutorial advanced statistical analysis methods + methods of cognitive computational modeling
"He proved himself as a student teacher through his extraordinary passion for high-quality, student-oriented teaching. He offered weekly tutorials far beyond the agreed teaching units. In his units, he taught central key skills beyond the scheduled tasks and created numerous completely new learning materials."
Prof. Markus Tiedemann and students - "Cross-connection - de-radicalization in theory and practice"
The basic idea of this two-semester project is to counter the divisive and polarizing tendencies of society with a moment of understanding and de-radicalization and to scientifically assess its didactic potential. To this end, the students traveled "across" Saxony in canoes and held discussions on migration, climate change and just war.
Dr. Sebastian Schellhammer and Prof. Gesche Pospiech - Applications in physics
The aim of the course is to gain knowledge of the applications and effects of physics in the most diverse areas of science, technology and everyday life. In addition, the topics covered in the lecture are contextualized in such a way that they can be easily transferred to future school lessons.
Team BQL-Grundschule, Prof. Sebastian Schorcht, BQL-Digital - AI-Lab
As a joint project, a learning environment has been created here that promotes "future skills" at primary school level through open workshop work in three areas. Participants acquire skills in "basic and in-depth knowledge of AI", "AI applications in practice" and "ethical and moral aspects of using AI".
