The Latvian Ambassador H.E. Alda Vanaga visited TUD Dresden University of Technology for the first time on May 20, 2025. During her visit, she met with TUD Rector Prof. Ursula Staudinger to explore opportunities for collaboration in higher education, research, transfer and international exchange between TUD and Riga Technical University, among others.
In the meeting, the Ambassador and Rector also exchanged views on Latvia's national microchip initiative, a project that is being advanced in close cooperation with Riga Technical University.
At the same time, a Latvian delegation with representatives from science and industry visited the Barkhausen Institute. The purpose of the visit was to foster networking and dialogue and to discuss future collaborations, particularly in the field of microchips. Here, too, there was talk of intensifying academic cooperation with Riga Technical University and other universities in the Baltic region.
The next steps in the partnership will now be formalized in an agreement. This will concentrate on three central areas: Teaching and Studies, Research (EU funding in particular) and Innovation and Technology Transfer. Economic relations and student exchange are particular areas of focus.
This visit laid the foundation for a promising academic collaboration between the science hub of Dresden and research partners in Latvia.
