Anja Henning and David Teich receive the Professor Schwabe Award 2013
Two members of cfaed, Anja Henning and David Teich, will
receive the Professor Schwabe Award of the Technische
Universität (TU) Dresden 2013 for young scientists. The Award
Ceremony led by the prorector for research, Prof. Dr. Gerhard
Rödel, will be held on July 11, at 5 pm, in the
Erich-Müller-Building.
Anja Henning wrote her PhD thesis about the use of
DNA-templates for the creation of functional
DNA-nanostructures. The thesis was completed in less than three
years at the graduate school “Nano- and Biotechnology for the
packaging of electronic systems” and was unanimously graded
with “summa cum laude” by the supervisors. Anja Henning
collaborated with the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and
published her research results in the journal “Nature
Communications”. The self-control potential of DNA shall be
used for the construction of new transistors which could be
part of a new generation of microchips. Therefore, Dr. Anja
Henning currently works as group leader in the
“Biomolecular-Assembled Circuits Path” of the Center for
Advancing Electronics. In August 2013, she will however start a
new research project at the University of Oxford.
David Teich chose the simulation of nanostructures and their
potential as energy storage for topic of his A-graded master
thesis. This potential of carbon nanostructure is also
interesting for the cfaed research path “Carbon” where David
Teich is now preparing his PhD thesis. The chemist published
his research results together with American and Japanese
fellows in the renowned scientific journal “Physical Review
Letters”. The publications of Anja Henning and David Teich have
also been cited often by other researchers.
Since 1996, the Professor Schwabe Award is being awarded for
excellent PhD or Master theses in the area of physical or
electronic chemistry. The founder of the Award, Prof. Kurt
Schwabe (1905 - 1983), used to be the rector of the TU Dresden
from 1961 to 1965. In 1945, he also founded a research
institute, today known as the “Kurt-Schwabe-Institute for
process measuring and control technology of Meinsberg”.
