First Heisenberg Fellowship at the Medical Faculty of the TU Dresden
With the Heisenberg Programme the Deutsche
Forschungsgemeinschaft DFG promotes outstanding researchers who
fulfil the requirements for appointment to a long-term
professorship with the opportunity to prepare for a leading
position in science and research and to use the time to work on
an advanced research topic. Dr Attila Tóth of the Institute for
Physiological Chemistry of the Medical Faculty Carl Gustav
Carus takes up the just awarded Heisenberg Fellowship in the
middle of 2012 since he still is promoted via a Priority
Programme of the DFG running at the faculty until then. To
support the research of Dr Tóth on chromosome behaviour in cell
divisions, the DFG granted funds, which amount to almost 700
000 Euros over a period of three years, for consumables and for
staff.
With the Heisenberg Fellowship for Dr Attila Tóth and the
funding of his research project "The molecular base of HORMAD2
functions in meiotic checkpoint control" the Deutsche
Forschungsgemeinschaft confirms the high scientific quality and
originality of Dr Tóth’s research project at an international
level and his potential for gaining further qualifications as a
university teacher. The fundamental research of the biologist
born in Hungary is of significance for the understanding of
chromosomal abnormalities that arise during gametogenesis and
reproduction. Thus, the funded research has important
implications for human reproductive health.
