Establishing WE-CARE as a point of contact for persons who feel threatened, insulted or discriminated against

International students and staff are an integral part of the campus family. Thus, it is all the more serious, that some of our family members have to experience racist attacks and hostilities in Dresden. In order to not leave those affected alone, TU Dresden has established a point of contact for its international students and staff, who feels threatened, insulted or discriminated against. Persons affected can now use the e-mail address .

As a first step, affected persons will receive an automated email with extensive information regarding counselling options and points of contact. The e-mail contains information on police stations and advice on where to get medical first aid, victim and legal counselling as well as psycho-social help.

The offer is co-ordinated with the respective co-operation partners at TU Dresden. Often, specific contact persons are available. In order to overcome possible language barriers in the majority of cases, bilingual or multilingual persons of contact have been selected.

Following the automated e-mail, sent out in the concrete crisis situation and containing the most pertinent information, the person in question will receive an individualised email from the WE-CARE point of contact, asking whether personal contact and additional assistance are required and, whether the provided information was helpful or sufficient. To this end, TU Dresden has hired a new colleague who will promote the welcome culture within TU Dresden and ensure its sustainability. In the months to come, it is planned that she sets up a close network to involve and connect all stakeholders, namely the international advisors for the respective schools, the International Students Commissioner, the Erasmus coordinators, the International Office, the TU Dresden Welcome Center as well as TUD’s students and staff.

WE-CARE is one of many measures to promote the welcome culture at TU Dresden. “Science is international” – By living up to this motto, TU Dresden is setting standards throughout the country.
