On the way to Excellence
The Institutional Strategy TU Dresden (TUD) launched in the German Excellence Initiative is much more than dreams of the future. Some of the measures are meant to be realised even if the Institutional Strategy of TUD should not be elected to join the phase of full proposals. „Within the last two decades TUD showed a very dynamic development and we will keep our pace to continue designing and building our future“, says TUD Rector Prof. Hans Müller-Steinhagen. „This process would be fostered by grants out of the Excellence Initiative, but we decided not to stop and to wait for the decision in March 2011 – so we started the first steps of realisation now.“
On 15 December 2010 the Rectorial Board of TUD initiated 15 core teams covering the broad and crosslinked agenda of measures of the Instiutional Strategy. The core teams are headed by members of the Rectorial Board or Senior Managers of TUD, the team members come as well out of the university organisation as out the extramural research partner institutions. The core teams will continue elaborating the proposed measures and will also initiate the first steps of realisation where ever possible or reasonable.
“Some of the measures will last for years, so we need every month for conception and realisation“, says the Rector. “And a bundle of measures has to be realised by all means, even without any funding from the Excellence Initiative, a not really nice option, because this would be quite a challenge and would take a lot of time.”
The measures of the Institutional Strategy are tightly linked and focused on an all-embracing improvement in research and teaching. The three core topics are:
- structures and processes within TUD and in interaction with the non university partners
- DRESDEN-concept: an unique partner network of TUD with 14 non university research and culture institutions in Dresden
- innovative means to attract and to keep the best students and scientists.
All members of the TUD and of the partner insitutions are kept imformed about the Excellence prozess. On 9 December the third information event was offered to inform on the next steps and many people participated and joined the stimulating discussion session.
