Lecture Urban Planning I: Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Melanie Humann (#MH2)
Format
As a substitute for the in-person course, students were given a weekly CORONA PACKET on Opal.
The CORONA PACKET included an asynchronous lecture series, literature excerpts, links to websites or architectural offices with further information, interviews from specialist journals, film material and other media.
Due to the variety of media, independent study was to be designed in the most entertaining and exploratory way possible. In lieu of the end-of-semester examination, students applied the content learned from the corona packets on-site in the city. They installed an mini intervention in urban space to cause a temporary interruption in the everyday life of the passersby. The spatial installations were documented and presented in a gallery.

Description
The lecture series Urban Planning I imparts knowledge of contemporary planning and development of cities in a European and international context. It reflects the city’s intertwined effects in terms of its history and spatial manifestation as well as its social and cultural practices. It is divided into thematic focal points such as “City and Body,” “City and Society” and “Public Space” and illuminates these aspects from the perspective of the planning professions such as architecture, landscape architecture and traffic planning. It raises awareness of the sustainable use of remaining land resources and of resource-conserving planning in large-scale spatial contexts.
