ZLSB strengthens international cooperation with the College of Education at Pennsylvania State University (USA)
The Center for Teacher Education and Educational Research (ZLSB) and the College of Education of the Pennsylvania State University have maintained close links over several years within the context of a changing teacher education, as well as related to non-traditional pathways into the teaching profession.
This international cooperation was strengthened during a three-day visit by staff at ZLSB to Penn State university, which took place from the 21.06.2022 to the 23.06.2022. The aim of a three-day visit was to meet staff working on student and staff exchanges, in order to develop cooperation within the framework of existing and new joint projects. The Director of International Progams at Penn state, Leila M. Bradaschia, presented opportunities for international cooperation at Pennsylvania State University.
In a welcoming reception, Dean Kimberley A. Lawless, of the Pennsylvania State College of Education, recognised the ZLSB's expertise in linking theory and practice in teacher education through the model of teachers seconded in higher education.
Discussions with Dr Alica McDyre (Director and Associate Teaching Professor of Education), Gregor T. Mason (Director and Certification Coordinator) and Dr Ryne A. Sperling (Associate Dean, Undergraduate & Graduate Studies, Professor of Education) addressed the mutual conditions for student mobilities. These included the frameworks for time and content, crediting and application modalities. The discussion enabled both universities to consider new perspectives for exchanges in the context of school internships, summer schools and other stays. In addition, special attention was paid to the high demand for qualified school headmasters on both sides. This will also be the starting point for the cooperation planned for November 2022 on the topic: Intercultural and Intersectional Competence for School Leaders between the Pennsylvania State College of Education and the ZLSB of the TU Dresden.
