VERIS-Elbe: Changes and Management of extreme flood risks in large catchments − case study Elbe
Since the 1990's the extreme flood events of the large rivers in central Europe have caused enormous economical, social and ecological damage. For this reason the relationship between extreme flood events and their subsequent damage shall be examined on the basis of large catchments. The aim is to estimate changes in flood risk and potential damage for the next 50-100 years. This is the basis for determining the effectiveness of precautionary measures undertaken on the german side of the Elbe basin.
