Franz Stolze Prize
Table of contents
The Franz Stolze Prize is awarded annually in recognition of outstanding scientific theses by students and young scientists at TU Dresden in the field of energy technology.
The Berlin engineer Dr. Franz Stolze is the inventor of the design concept of the gas turbine, which is still indispensable for energy, drive and process engineering today and in the context of the energy transition. Franz Stolze first described his single-shaft "fire turbine" in 1873. He was initially denied a patent for it. With the patent granted 24 years later for his essentially renamed "hot air machine" with a multi-stage axial compressor, the centrally arranged hot air generator, the multi-stage axial turbine and his attempt to realize his invention with the "Weißensee" experimental gas turbine, Franz Stolze laid the essential foundations for today's gas turbine technology. In 2010, the prize named after Franz Stolze was awarded for the first time at TU Dresden.
Prize money
The prize money of 1,500 euros is donated by Dr. Ing. E.h. Manfred Freimark and Gudrun Stolze. If two works are selected as worthy of the prize, the prize money will be divided into 1,000 euros and 500 euros.
Jury
A committee consisting of the founder, Dr. Ing. E.h. Freimark, university lecturers from the relevant subject areas and a representative of the University Executive Board will be formed to assess the proposals submitted.
Award
The Franz Stolze Prize is awarded in the respective faculty from which the prizewinner comes.
Call for entries
The work should have been completed and defended between April of the previous year and the submission deadline at the end of March of the current year. The proposals, including an expert opinion on the work, must be submitted to the University Executive Board of TU Dresden, Office of the Rector/Academic Committees. The submission deadline is March 31 of the respective award year.
