Guest lecture Sybila Guéneau 27.06.22
Crime stories have become an integral part of everyday entertainment. Brutal violent crimes, disgruntled investigators with surprising findings, a dark atmosphere: these suspense-generating elements attract a large audience in film and literature. But crime thrillers can also be a medium of social criticism. In her lecture, Sybila Guéneau (EHESS) showed how the "néo-polar" from the 1960s onwards not only uncovered the problems in the suburbs of Paris, but also positioned itself as a political instrument of social criticism. The starting point for this were excerpts from texts by Jean-Patrick Manchette, Jean Vautrin and Hervé Prudon, among others.
