BA degree programs at the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science
In accordance with § 21 para. 3 of the Examination Regulations for BA degree programs at the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science, the “Bachelor’s thesis topic...must be issued no later than four weeks after the successful completion of all modules” (BA degree programms in History, Catholic Theology, Art History, Political Science). The term “all modules” includes the supplementary area and AQua modules.
For the BA degree programs in Media Research, Philosophy, Protestant Theology an Sociology you must register your thesis at the beginning of the semester immediately after you have completed your last module examination (“at the beginning”" usually means the first month of the new semester, i.e. in April or October).
You usually have to register your Bachelor’s thesis in person at the Examination Office. However, this is only possible via email at the moment.
You can also always submit the topic earlier.
Please note: This regulation only applies if you have not yet decided on a concrete topic with your supervisor. If you have already decided on a topic you can work on, you must register this at the Examination Office within 10 days – irrespective of whether you have completed all your modules or not.
This deadline always takes precedence!
The registration form must be submitted to the Examination Office immediately after the supervisor's signature (within the following 10 days at the latest). You can supply your second supervisor’s signature at a later date. We are unable to accept your registration without your supervisor’s signature. However, the signature can also be substituted by an email from your potential supervisor to the Examination Office. You will find a list of potential supervisors here. If you suggest an external second supervisor, please make sure you have the Examination Committee’s permission before you obtain their signature.
Have you completed a stay abroad for your studies? If so, you must also fill out the form on study-related stays abroad and submit this in conjunction with the registration form.
After you have registered, you will receive the deadline for your Bachelor’s thesis straight away. This means that as soon as your registration is accepted, your work period will begin. You will also receive an information sheet on how to submit your thesis together with the approval and deadline. When registering for the Bachelor's thesis, registration for the obligatory colloquium takes place simultaneously (the Media Research and Media in Practice degree programs are exceptions. Corresponding assessment is part of a module completed prior to registering the thesis). The examination for this takes place in consultation with the examiner while working on the thesis or afterwards (in accordance with § 29 para. 2 of the Examination Regulations).
