Time of registration
As soon as a workable topic for the Bachelor's thesis has been determined, it must be registered at the Examination Office within three days, regardless of whether all modules have been completed or not (see below). As a rule, the supervisor signs the registration form (see below) with the current date when the topic is confirmed during office hours or in an e-mail conversation. This is often linked to the confirmation of an exposé. Please discuss this in good time and have the pre-filled form ready.
Students on the BA in Art History should note that, irrespective of the above-mentioned deadline, the thesis must also be submitted approximately one week before the BA colloquium. In this degree program, this takes place during the writing of the thesis and not after the thesis has been passed, so please arrange a suitable date that is not too early.
Deadlines for registration
According to the examination regulations for the BA degree programs, there are deadlines for registration. They stipulate that the topic of the Bachelor's thesis
- either "no later than four weeks after the successful completion of all modules" (including KB and EB and AQUA) (applies to the BA degree programs in History, Catholic Theology, Art History, Political Science) or
-"at the latest at the beginning of the semester following the completion of the last module examination (applies to the BA degree programs Protestant Theology, Media Research, Musicology, Philosophy, Sociology). The "beginning of the semester following the completion of the last module examination" is always understood to be the first month of the semester: April in the summer semester (i.e. until 30.04.), October in the winter semester (i.e. until 31.10.).
However, the thesis can also be submitted earlier at any time. There are no admission requirements for this.
Registration of the Bachelor's thesis
The Bachelor's thesis can be submitted
- by e-mail to or
- after booking an appointment via the appointment booking form in person at the Examination Office.
If you register by email, please send us a scan of the registration form with the (digital) signature of the supervisor. The signature for the second opinion on the form can be submitted later. It can also be replaced by an email from the potential second supervisor to the Examination Office. Here you will find a list of possible reviewers
When registering in person after booking an appointment, simply bring the above-mentioned documents with you in printed form.
After registering (by e-mail or in person), you will receive the binding submission deadline, an information sheet with instructions on the external form of the thesis and a checklist on the status of the entire final procedure. The checklist lists any outstanding work.
The processing period begins on the day (of submission) of the registration. When you register your thesis in HISQIS or Selma, you also register for the mandatory colloquium for the BA thesis.
Extension of the deadline due to illness: Since there are no more "yellow slips" for sick notes since 01.01.2023, an original medical certificate must be submitted by post if illness is claimed for the purpose of extending the deadline. Exception: illness of own children
Submission
Submission/submission of final theses
Contrary to the stipulations in the examination regulations, the Examination Board of the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Science has approved digital submission for final theses until further notice - especially as an option for meeting deadlines. You can find the details below.
Of course, it is also possible to submit printed copies and files of the thesis (as described in the examination regulations) at any time. This is possible in person after booking an appointment via the appointment booking form or by sending it by post or TU Dresden's internal mail.
Digital submission
Send an e-mail to the Examination Office() by midnight on the specified submission date at the latest and attach the file with your work as an attachment. Please use the PDF file format (also in your own interest - keyword "formatting"). If this is not possible for any reason, you can switch to a Word file. As the 2nd attachment to your e-mail, please send us a scan/photo of the back of the "Information sheet for the preparation of the thesis". This is an additional signed declaration of independence for your examination file.
Please check whether we have already received confirmation from your second assessor. If not, please also attach this proof (signature on the admission or e-mail). Please do not send the thesis to your reviewers at the same time! They will officially receive the file with your work from us.
Subsequent submission of one or two printed copies would only be necessary for digital submission if one or both reviewers insist on the printed form because they cannot/do not want to read the work on screen. However, we will inform you of this after you have submitted your work. If you choose this form of submission, please do not send us any additional printed copies for the time being.
Submission of printed copies
As an alternative to digital submission, you can submit printed copies by post or via the deadline mailbox.
What do I need to consider here? Please submit
- two bound copies, each with a bound declaration of independence with original signature,
- two digital versions of the thesis on CD-ROM (can be burned in the copy store) or on USB sticks and
- the completed 2nd page of the information sheet with the declaration of independence and
- if applicable, the missing confirmation from your second assessor
When submitting by post, the postmark applies to meet the deadline. Please send us a scan/photo of the proof of posting by email in advance. When submitting via the TU Dresden deadline mailbox - you will find it between the Tillich and Hülsse buildings (see site plan) - a flap that falls 24:00 inside the box can be used to assign exactly when the mail was posted when it is emptied daily. This day is noted on the envelope by the Central Post Office. Please write our postal address on the envelope: School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Academic Affairs Office, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences Examination Office. Please pack very thick papers individually so that they fit through the mail slot.
Colloquium
The colloquium for the BA thesis can take place as soon as the thesis has been assessed as passed by both assessors [exception: BA Art History - here the colloquium takes place shortly after registration of the thesis].
As a rule, you are Cc when the reviewers send their reviews to the Examination Office. If this is not the case, you are welcome to contact the Examination Office and we will send you the review(s).
Please arrange the date for the colloquium yourself with your supervisor.

Final and certificate documents
As soon as the reports and all module grades (including the grade for the colloquium) are complete, the final documents (certificate of completion, certificate of grades) will be issued and sent by post by the Examination Office. These are official documents that you can present anywhere until you receive the final documents. At the same time, the certificate documents (certificate dt/eng, certificate dt/eng, supplement, diploma supplement) are created and sent to the signature round. Once all signatures have been obtained (4-6 weeks), you will receive the certificate documents by post. Please leave your current address in selma.
De-registration
You must be enrolled at the time of the last examination (exception: repeat examinations, these can be taken externally). However, you do not have to remain enrolled to wait for the reports or grades.
If you take the last examination in the first month of a new semester - i.e. in April or October (this also applies to the submission of the BA thesis and the BA colloquium), you do not have to re-register for the new semester. However, this is possible, you decide.
If you complete your studies in the middle of the semester, you can apply for a pro-rata refund of the semester ticket fee via the Stura
