Rising wage costs and a shortage of skilled workers are the main reasons for steadily increasing construction costs and delays in the construction process. For several years, the profession of mason has been one of the hardest to fill positions in the construction industry due to the lack of junior staff. For the affected construction companies there is increasing pressure to automate their work processes and to relieve the workers. One way to overcome the challenges mentioned is to develop and use robot systems for the automated construction of masonry.
