Backup
The regular backup of all of the data is the most important precaution in case of data loss through accidental or willful deletion, data defects or encoding Trojan.
All of the servers within the Faculty, where the usage data are stored (in particular File server), are connected to the central backup system of TU Dresden. In connection with the strategy not to save the user data on the local drives of the terminal devices, the consistently high data security is guaranteed.
In total 30 TByte backup memory are currently available for the Faculty.
The backups occur automatically as a rule once per day in a time frame between 17:00 and ca. 3:00. The backups occur chronologically for all of the servers. According to demand the multiple backups during the day are possible.
The data backup occurs incrementally, which means that only changed data will be transferred. Deleted or changed data can be recovered within 180 days in the different versions to the point in time when the daily backup proceeded.
The using of Dynamic Storage Technology makes it possible to restore the processing data in case of damage (e.g. the modification date is latter than one month).
Since enough storage space is available, the restorage to the alternative server is possible together with the Faculty under obtaining of all of the rights and further data characteristics.
The restore of the data or directory structure is possible upon request and only through the responsible administrator.
Notes:
- there are restrictions on the data names depending on the version of the backup software and operating system together with data system!
- Data with special characters in names ar with an especially long name will not be saved! The opened data cannot be saved!
- the backup does not replace the responsible use of important documents (backup copy)!
- the storage and thus backup of personal data is only permitted within the scope of the entry in the TUD's procedural directory and the consent of the data protection officer.
