VPN - Virtual Private Network
The use of the access through VPN is necessary in following cases:
- for the use of services from computers outside the TU Dresden, which are, however, only activated for the TU Dresden network (e.g. databases or internal TUD websites),
- for access to resources within the TUD or the Faculty of Chemistry which cannot be accessed from outside for security reasons (e.g. remote access to measuring computers).
Access via VPN requires uniform secure authentication. This takes place at the central VPN gateways of the ZIH of the TUD.
The corresponding VPN client software must be installed and configured on the user's computer. Information on this and a download option for the software can be found via the link below.
There are three possible VPN access levels:
- general VPN access: ZIH-Login@tu-dresden.de
-> vpn2.zih.tu-dresden.de: Cisco AnyConnect client / WebVPN
Thereby all of the resources, which are activated for TU network, are available. Not available are the recourses, which are protected from the access from the general TU network (administration accesses, a device in the network area of the Faculty) - access to the VPN network of the professorship: ZIH-Login@chm-ma-xx-vpn
-> vpn2.zih.tu-dresden.de: Cisco AnyConnect client
In doing so the privileged dedicated small network areas for the departments of the Faculty (xx = mc, anc, lc, ac, bc, oc, pc, vw) will be assigned, from where the resources are also accessible in protected network areas. The responsible administrators manage the ZIH logins from their department, which can use this access. Equally the contact person for the resources, which in this way should be accessible in their worker network. (e.g. file transfer to the file server, remote desktop to the measurement computer). - admin VPN: ZIH-Login@tud-admin-vpn, with 2-factor authentication
-> vpn2.zih.tu-dresden.de: Cisco AnyConnect client
These accesses must be requested individually from the ZIH and allow access to specially protected resources (e.g. administration).
Independent of this, there are further VPN accesses for special applications such as SAP.
