Application for the Orientation Program
The new application period for the 2026/27 orientation program begins on June 1, 2026. Participants will be selected by lottery.
- Duration of study: 1 Year (2 semesters)
- Start of studies: Winter semester (28th September 2026)
- Application Period: June 1st – August 15, 2026
- Costs: The Orientation Program is free of charge. Only the regular semester fee is charged.
- Number of Participants: A total of 100 places is available.
Admission requirements
Applicants with a German university entrance qualification
- University entrance qualification (e.g., school-leaving qualification; if not yet available, it can be submitted later)
Applicants with a foreign secondary school certificate
- Evaluation report from uni-assist or recognition of the school leaving certificate by the certificate recognition office (Zeugnisanerkennungsstelle) of the State Office for Schools and Education (Landesamt für Schule und Bildung)
- Language certificate: The Orientation Program is completely held in German. International applicants and German applicants with a foreign school-leaving qualification have to provide proof of sufficient German language skills for admission to the Orientation Program.
IInternational prospective students who are required to attend a Studienkolleg or have not already acquired a language certificate for starting the course immediately are not eligible to participate in the Orientation Program.
How to Apply
1. Application via the TU Dresden’s Application Portal selma

• Please create an application account. After submitting your personal data, you will receive an email with your initial password.
• If you need assistance, please contact the ServiceCenterStudium.
2. Select your Program
Start your application in the selma portal and choose the study program “Orientation Program”. Follow the steps of the online application process.
3. Provide your Information
Complete the application form in the portal with all required information.
4. Selection Process (Lottery Procedure)
After the application deadline, participants will be selected via a lottery.
All applications submitted on time will be considered.
5. Admission and Enrollment
Admission letters will be sent starting August 17, 2026.
Once you receive your admission, you will have a specific deadline (usually ten days) to accept your place via the selma portal.
To do this, please submit the required documents for enrollment and transfer the semester contribution.
The exact deadlines and requirements will be stated in the admission letter.
Note for international applicants:
If you hold a foreign university entrance qualification, you must upload specific documents during the application process. The exact requirements will be displayed in the selma portal.
Important Note: Orientation Week
The Orientation Program begins with a mandatory Orientation Week from September 28 to October 2, 2026, before the official start of lectures.
Participation in the Orientation Week is mandatory and a key component of the program.
