General information for the degree programme

The Art History programme teaches students fundamental knowledge of art history from late antiquity to the present, with particular focus on the European and American cultural spheres. The programme considers a wide array of objects of study, from architecture and classical visual art to photography, film and other modern media. Students acquire the ability to develop research interests in the field of art history and critically analyse works of art with scholarly methods.

The core area consists of three introductory modules ("Periods and Basic Methods of Art History", "Introduction to Architecture", and "Introduction to Visual Art"), two advanced modules that offer students the chance to consolidate and extend their knowledge through the analysis of exemplary works of art ("Case Studies" and "Periods and Advanced Methods of Art History"), and a bachelor’s thesis. It is complemented with courses in one or two supplementary areas and courses in general skills. Further, students are expected to complete 300 hours of practical training. At the end of the programme, students also have to prove their knowledge of three foreign languages, among them English and Latin.
