Application hints and tips
This degree program participates in the Dialogorientiertes Serviceverfahren (DoSV) – an initiative organized to aid communication between universities and applicants in cases where prospective students apply for multiple degree programs at multiple universities. This means that applicants from Germany and the rest of the EU must have an applicant ID (BID) and an authentication number (BAN) issued to them from Hochschulstart prior to submitting their application to TU Dresden.
General information for the degree programme
The department of philosophy at the TU Dresden offers studies in a broad range of the field, both historically and systematically: In addition to the important standard sub-fields of theoretical and practical philosophy, the university also offers a deepened education in logic and aesthetics. The specialisation in philosophy of technology (Centre for Interdisciplinary Technology Research) is particularly noteworthy.
During the first and second year of the programme, students become acquainted with the basic methods of philosophical reflexion and argumentation (philosophical propaedeutics, history of philosophy, basics of theoretical philosophy, basics of practical philosophy, basics of philosophy of technology, culture and religion). They learn how to identify, understand, and explain central discourses of philosophical research. Furthermore, they acquire the ability to pursue rational discourses, justify decisions, understand difficult texts and develop arguments and write texts according to the standards of the discipline. The third year offers the students the chance to deepen their knowledge according to their individual specialisations. The studies in the core area are complemented with courses in one or two supplementary areas and in general aptitudes.
