Campus and Operations
A systematic environmental management system has become indispensable to university operations as a way to sufficiently take environmental factors into account. The environmental management system provides a targeted impetus for regularly reviewing environmental protection efforts at TU Dresden as well as for submitting and implementing proposals for change and improvement.
TU Dresden's campus is much more than just a place of research and education. It is also a meeting point, inviting visitors to linger for a while. To this end, let’s create a sustainable campus together. © TUD/Biermann-Jung © TUD/Biermann-Jung
Environmental management since 2003
Since 2003, TU Dresden has had a certified environmental management system in keeping with the Eco-Management and Audit Scheme (EMAS). The key element of the environmental management system is environmental reporting with the environmental program to ensure continually improving environmental performance.

Areas of activity
As part of its environmental management, TU Dresden has defined and evaluated the substantial sum of its environmental impact. Of these aspects, the most notable were set as areas of activity for TU Dresden’s environmental management system.
Waste
TU Dresden is committed to avoiding, reducing, recycling and safely disposing of waste. More information
Purchasing
Environmentally friendly purchasing helps reduce ecological damage. Universities like TU Dresden are in a position to take a leading role in this area. More information
Energy
Our goal is to use energy consciously (electricity, heat, cooling) as well as to control and regulate energy consumption. How energy is used has a vital impact on TU Dresden’s consumption levels and the associated environmental impact. More information
Mobility
Mobility is one of the major sources of emissions at TU Dresden. These arise partly from employees and students commuting to campus. They are also the result of business trips – especially air travel – which produce high greenhouse gas emissions. You can find extensive information on and services relating to mobility at TU Dresden in the mobility portal. Mobility portal
Campus design
The campus design plan lays out how the outdoor spaces of our campus will be developed. Over the next few years, a main campus will emerge that reflects the research conducted at our University of Excellence while inviting visitors to linger for a while. More information
Biodiversity
Ecologically sustainable aspects are increasingly taken into consideration when it comes to planning outdoor spaces. The campus design plan contains various measures for maintaining biodiversity. The objective is to develop the campus into a habitat for animal and plant species. More information
