Blood donations for the Transgender Day of Visibility
On 31 March, the Transgender Day of Visibility is celebrated worldwide. The aim is to draw attention to trans people and their struggle for self-determination and acceptance.
Prorector Academic Affairs Prof. Michael Kobel, queer peer counsellor Fay Uhlmann and the contact person of the Complaints Office for Harassment, Discrimination and Violence Anja Wiede therefore used the opportunity to donate blood to draw attention to the following equality policy success:
Just last week, an amendment to the Transfusion Act was passed, which currently excludes gender identity, sexual orientation and age from blood donation.
The draft for the new Self-Determination Act was also advanced. Among other things, it is to be made easier for non-binary / trans* people to change their entry in the birth register.
At the TU Dresden, the DGTI ID card is recognised in this regard. It is a standardised identity document that is intended to make everyday study easier for trans* people without an official change of civil status or first name.
The possibility of donating blood is offered regularly at TU Dresden.
