TUD Lectures
Risky leap into the sea of information
The public and the world of academia have been questioning how social media such as Facebook, Instagram or TikTok change the way people use information, even well before the war with Ukraine broke out. The sheer volume and wealth of contradictions in news, as well as the fact that it is selected by algorithms and commented by other users, has an increasing influence on what information reaches us and how we process it. This also has an impact on public discourse and the way that we communicate and discuss with one another.
In the fourth installment of TUD’s “Challenges of Democracy” lectures series, questions concerning the significance and consequences of information spread using social media are addressed.
