Dresden 1945 - People of the city between destruction and a new beginning"Totally bombed out, are healthy" - Personal testimonies and memories of life in a destroyed city
Begrüßung: Annekatrin Klepsch und Dr.in Christina Ludwig
Volker Heise
Andrea Rudolph
On the 80th anniversary of the end of the war, Volker Heise presents a breathtakingly narrated chronicle that spans the whole of 1945, from New Year's Eve to New Year's Day. Diaries, letters, memories, but also unpublished archive material, including eyewitness accounts, provide a unique perspective. Voices, observations and stories are interwoven into a grand narrative that directly links the most diverse fates. The portrait of a year as we have never seen it before.
The Dresden City Museum preserves evidence of the bombing of Dresden in February 1945, including search reports and diary entries. These expand on Heise's observations and impressively show the impact that war and violence had on the people of the city.
Moderation: Dr. Caroline Förster
The event is part of the series "Dresden 1945 - People of the City between Downfall and a New Beginning". It is embedded in the commemorative year Dresden 2025 - Future through Remembrance. Various formats and events will be used to broaden the perspective on 1945 as a whole.
