Dresden 1945 - People of the city between destruction and a new beginning
A series of events organized by the Culture, Science and Tourism Division
Dresden 1945 - a term that is seemingly inseparable from the bombing of the city from February 13 to 15, 1945 and shapes personal and collective memories. The year 1945 also marks the end of the Second World War and the beginning of the post-war period with a reorganization of the world. Up to this point, millions of people had to pay with their lives for the racial mania, zeal for conquest and war of extermination. After the end of the war, refugee movements to and from Dresden, denazification measures, the Soviet occupation and reconstruction shaped the social reorganization of the city.
In Dresden, there will be events in the city center and throughout the city throughout the entire commemorative year 2025. Memories of personal experiences, an examination of history and its relevance to contemporary issues will be the focus of various formats in the city's squares, concert halls, lecture halls, churches and theaters.
