RESEARCH SEMINAR 2020: "FUTURE AIRPORT OPERATIONS"
TASK
Due to the constantly increasing number of aircraft movements, capacity-increasing measures must be developed for airports and the surrounding airspace to continue to guarantee a safe and smooth flow of processes in the complete aviation system. In addition, new technologies and airspace users, such as Unmanned Aircraft Systems, are gaining importance and must therefore be considered in the future development of concepts.
Four student working groups are dedicated to developing solutions for future airport challenges. For this purpose, the following topics are considered:
- "Approaches to increasing airport capacity concerning the runway system"
- "Arrival Management"
- "Conception of a digital turnaround management"
- "Integration of airports into an Urban Air Mobility (UAM) concept"

Organization
The research seminar will be supervised by Prof. Fricke, who holds the chair, as well as Dr. Schultz, Mr. Förster, Mr. Evler and Mr. Brühl. Dr. Bierwagen and Dr. Leemüller from Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS) supported the practice. We want to take this opportunity to thank them once again for their commitment!
In addition to dealing with technical issues, the aim of the seminar is to train the necessary project management skills. For the students, independent project work with the facets of time management and milestone fulfilment, self-organisation and teamwork are also at the forefront of their work. The necessary project management activities must be monitored, controlled and, if necessary, delegated by the project management.
