Admission requirements
The necessary admission requirements for acceptance as a doctoral candidate are regulated in the doctoral degree regulations of the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transport and Traffic Sciences under § 6.

Admission
Admission to doctoral studies is granted to anyone who
- has obtained a Diplom, Master's or Magister degree at a university or has passed the state examination in a course of study relevant to the doctoral field; both the overall performance of the final examination and the Diplom, Master's or Magister thesis or the state examination should be graded at least "good".
- fulfills the personal requirements for the doctoral degree;
- has not already unsuccessfully completed a doctoral procedure twice or who is not in a pending doctoral procedure and
- has submitted an application for acceptance as a doctoral candidate with all necessary documents in accordance with § 8.
Admission with a Bachelor's degree
Furthermore, admission to the doctoral procedure is granted to those who have obtained a Bachelor's degree at a university in a relevant scientific field with an overall grade of "very good" and have passed the aptitude test in accordance with § 7 of the doctoral degree regulations of the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transportation and Traffic Sciences.
Admission with a foreign degree
The Doctoral Committee decides on the recognition of the equivalence of foreign examinations and degrees, taking into account equivalence agreements. The documents will be sent to the International Office for the equivalence check after you have applied for acceptance as a doctoral candidate.
The online database www.anabin.de allows you to find out in advance about the equivalence of your degree.
Additional academic achievements
The doctoral committee may combine acceptance as a doctoral candidate with the imposition of conditions, such as additional coursework or additional examinations.
The following conditions apply in particular (§ 8 Section 5):
Holders of a first professionally qualifying university degree not related to a doctorate must complete additional examinations from the respective scientific field of the doctoral degree sought, amounting to 15 credit points. The module examinations must be completed with a grade of at least "good".
The following applies:
- if the academic degree of Dr.-Ing. is being sought: the module examinations must originate from the engineering modules of the main course of the faculty's Diplom degree programs or from modules of the faculty's Master's degree programs
- if the academic degree of Dr. rer. pol. is being sought: the module examinations must come from the economics modules of the Master's degree program in Transportation Economics
- these examinations must be completed in accordance with the current version of the study documents applicable to the respective degree programs
- in exceptional cases, the additional work can also be completed at another faculty of the Technische Universität Dresden or at another university. The doctoral committee will decide on this.
The admission decision is made as part of the decision on acceptance as a doctoral candidate in accordance with § 8 of the doctoral degree regulations of the "Friedrich List" Faculty of Transportation and Traffic Sciences.
