The EcrtD currently offers the following services:
Microelectrode array recordings from acute tissue slices, organoids and adherent cultures combinable with:
- Electric stimulation for activating specific fiber bundle.
- Pharmacologic stimulation for modulating certain transmitter systems.
- Light stimulation at various wavelengths for modulating the activity of optogenetically modified tissue
To inspect the available microelectrode arrays, have a look at our equipment.
The EcrtD concentrates experience in the following electrophysiological techniques:
- Generation of acute brain slices
- Whole cell patch clamp in current clamp mode, incl. pharmacological manipulation
- Perforated patch clamp with gramicidin
- Juxtracellular recording and stimulation in the intact brain
- Multielectrode Array recordings from silicon probes penetrating the cerebral cortex
- Recording of electrocorticograms (ECoG) with flexible multielectrode arrays
- Various brain surgeries in rats and mice (cranial windows, head-fixation constructions, implantations (recording electrodes, canulae, optic fibers), AAV injection)
- Optogenetic manipulations of neuronal activity
- Intrinsic optical imaging
Further expertise includes:
- Fabrication of diversely shaped glass pipettes from glass capillaries
- Generation of cortical flat mounts for histological investigations in the tangential plane
- Behavioral testing of rats and mice (rooted in cognitive behavioral theory and analysis approaches applying laws of psychophysics)
The analysis spectrum includes, amongst others:
- Matlab coding
- Power analysis / Analysis of effect size
- Action potential characterization (incl. AHPs and ADP)
- Excitability analysis (incl. adaptation ratio)
- Event-related potentials and firing rates
- Spike sorting and local field potentials (incl. quality control)
- Biostatistics (parametric and non-parametric)
