Project B01: Energy-Aware Software Architecture
The focus of this project is a) to improve the scalability of the newly developed techniques for energy auto-tuning and multiple qualities of service (QoS), by using techniques from program and abstract interpretation, b) to research on coordination protocols for cross-layer energy auto-tuning, and c) to develop a reference architecture which optimizes the global QoS and energy consumption of the envisaged HAEC system.
Role within the CRC 912
- In cooperation with B06 B01 investigates trade-offs in the energy efficiency of Video Decoders. This work was conducted as a Bachelor’s thesis ("Experimental evaluation of the trade-off between energy-efficiency and performance at the example of video transcoding”) of Sebastian Knauer, who was jointly supervised by Rene Schöne and Dr. Waltenegus Dargie.
- Together with B05 the project B01 is working on the investigation of Odroid XU3 Energy Efficiency. They are focusing on exploring the energy efficiency of parallel compression algorithms on machines with a big.LITTLE architecture. Hendric Eckelt is currently conducting the work in his Bachelor’s thesis entitled “An Energy-Efficiency-Analysis of Parallel Compression Algorithms on big.LITTLE Machines”.
