Abstract
The RDS-PP (Reference Designation System for Power Plants) represents a further devel-opment of the previous German KKS system
expanding it to new technologies and project-specific adaptations.
This designation system offers important improvements, especially for structuring the specifications for process control engineering.
The TU Dresden “Energy Research & Education Centre” (EREC) includes about 40 test rigs for teaching and research.
These are cross-linked intensely on heat and power side and connected bidirectional (input and output) with their superordinated networks.
Consequently the EREC is an excellent pilot application, where the features of the RDS-PP can be shown.
Beside conventional technology new developments will be implemented, for example the so called DREGID-process (Dresden Steam Injected Gas Turbine Process),
Oxyfuel technology with carbon capture and storage and the usage of renewable energy. The RDS-PP is consistently implemented in the following fields of work:
• Combustion / gasification
• Education and research power plant
• Experimental turbo machinery
• Energy efficiency / renewable energy
For EREC a complex process control system is necessary. The advantages of the RDS-PP can be used for it structuring, designation and documentation
as it would be in a real large scale power plant application.
