When producing thermal waters, drinking water, crude oil and natural gas from wells, accompanying substances are usually brought to light in addition to the desired raw materials. These can accumulate on the production pipes (so-called scaling) and thus constrict or block them. The reduction in production output and the necessary removal of the scales results in enormous costs. To date, the options for removing scales and the associated problems are limited and sometimes very ineffective. Since scales can cause a considerable impairment of the conveying process within a very short period of time, as well as a not insignificant increase of the pipe weight, a further development of the existing methods or the development of new methods for a faster and more effective removal of scales is inevitable. A completely new approach to the removal of mineral scales is the electrical impulse process (EIV).
EIV uses high-voltage discharges to loosen scales. Originally, this method was developed for deep drilling technology to drill in hard rock. However, it can also be used for workovers.
The aim of the project is to develop a reliable tool for scales removal with adapted circuit and electrode geometries.
