Dual Career Service for Newly Appointed Professors
Its rich history and a strong sense of innovation make the city on the Elbe River a magnet for bright minds. TU Dresden, which has been awarded the title of a University of Excellence in 2012, has teamed up with the numerous non-university research institutions, universities and cultural institutions, creating a unique Alliance of Excellence: DRESDEN-concept. The Saxon State capital is not only a stronghold of science. The city owes its name "Florence on the Elbe" to its important history, the magnificent art treasures and the historic city centre with the Church of Our Lady, the castle and the Zwinger palace. City life in Dresden Neustadt is vibrant, young, colourful and creative. The nature of the Dresdner hinterland is green and beautiful.

We have summarised the most important questions and answers regarding the Dual Career Service in our FAQs:
The Dual Career Service works in accordance to the "guidelines of Technische Universität Dresden for the support of dual career couples" and according to the best practice guidelines of the Dual Career Network Germany in which the TU Dresden holds an active membership.
Using the Dual Career Service generally requires an authority to commission our services. Commissioning the Dual Career Service, therefore, usually takes place through the Rectorial Board or through the Appointment Officer at TUD.
The appointing/recruiting body, the appointment committee or the Dean/the Faculty can also establish contact with the Dual Career Service.
Direct contact is possible if you belong to the group of people who are eligible, and the issue of dual careers has already been addressed during the appointment negotiations.
After we have been commissioned and after you have contacted the Dual Career Service by e-mail, telephone or post, we will aim to arrange an appointment for an interview (either by telephone or in person) with you as quickly as possible.
Please fill in the contact form and send it to the Dual Career Service by post or via e-mail.
We will then prepare the first interview on the basis of the submitted documents and your personal objectives.
- The completed contact form.
- A copy of your C.V. in digital form | Note: a covering letter is not necessary at this stage. Certificates can be handed in later on request.
- A short personal profile | Note: this should include – in just a few sentences – your education, skills and key competences, your career objectives and also the earliest date you can start work at.
In order to provide you with the optimal support on your career path, your personal commitment during the entire application process is necessary. Success in finding employment is based primarily on your active co-operation.
As a general principle, the decision concerning whether to contact proposed employers or to apply for specifically suggested vacancies remains solely your responsibility. Moreover, it is up to you to convince the proposed employer of your suitability for the position.
- Establishing contact with potential employers in the region/within the network
- Sending out your (anonymous) short profile, CV, and - if you wish - your application, with a letter of reference if applicable
- Providing support in extending your professional network (initiating contacts)
The support provided by the Dual Career Service usually lasts until you have been successful in your search for employment, but no longer than 18 months.
If you are no longer in need of our assistance or if you have been successfully hired, the consultation process is terminated by mutual consent.
