Negotiation
In order to complete the procedures in a quick and efficient manner, the TU Dresden relies on a tried and tested instrument to accelerate the process: only after a successful preliminary appointment, the Rector will give the candidate a call.
Usually, you will receive an invitation via e-mail beforehand of the preliminary appointment. In the same e-mail, we will ask you for the required documents which will be explained below.
- Teaching and research concept with the consequently following requests for the personnel, material and spatial equipment of the professorship: this concept helps us with the efficient preparation of the appointment and allows us to check alternative offers, e.g. concerning the staffing, in the shared use of existing technical equipment or similar, if necessary. The more concrete and detailed your wishes concerning the required technology, special software programs or special room requirements are described, the more efficiently we can organise the appointment.
- Requests on personal references: since both, the basic salary and the respective grade assignment are non-negotiable due to the exclusive competence of the State Tax and Finance Office, only variable benefits can be negotiated.
- Current salary or payslip
In order to ascertain the essential facts, in particular the expected level of the basic salary, we also need the completed personal form and the statement about your scientific career. If you did not yet submitted the form, we are grateful for a copy in preparation for the appointment.
In preparation of the preliminary appointment, you are welcome to inform yourself about the peculiarities of salary law in Saxony.
Additional information can be found in the explanatory notes. The current salary rates can be found here.
Base Salary
Since 2014, the assessment of the basic salary according to § 35 para. 4 of the Saxon Salary Act (SächsBesG) is carried out according to different levels. Thus, the basic salary rises at intervals of five years each of professorial periods of experience until the final stage is reached. Only the State Tax and Finance Office (LSF) decides about the classification of grades. When determining the level and its duration, a distinction is made between times that must be recognized (so called “Ist-Zeiten”) and times that are eligible (so called “Kann-Zeiten”). You can find further information here.
Variable benefits
According to § 36 of the Saxon Salary Law (SächsBesG) variable salary can be awarded in the salary grades W2 and W3:
- Appointment compensation packages | Recruitment payment
- Special Performance Bonuses | Incentive payor
- Functional performance bonuses.
The award of variable compensation is based on the “Sächsische Hochschulleistungsbezügeverordnung” of the 10th January 2006, last amended by Article 25 of the Ordinance of the 16th September 2014, in conjunction with the Technical Regulations of the TU Dresden on the procedure of the award of benefits as well as research and educational allowances from the 31st July 2008.
Special scheme for pensions of benefit payments
According to new law, indefinite appointment and retention as well as special benefits up to 30% of the respective final basic salary can be declared as pensionable. In future, the retirement pay of these benefit receipts will no longer be legally required, but will require a corresponding declaration by the Rectorate of the TU Dresden.
Supply Information
A legal claim of the provision of a pension information was introduced with § 70 Sächsisches Beamtenversorgungsgesetz (SächsBeamtVG). This can generally be applied for in writing every three years as well as in the event of a metrial change in the legal and factual situation.
While the responsibility for the appointment to the professorship lies with the rector, the Saxony State Ministry for Science and Arts (SMWK) is responsible for the appointment as a civil servant.
