Since the end of the 1980s, environmental protection and sustainability have been firmly established in the structures and guiding principles of TU Dresden. A wide range of sustainability initiatives are strategically implemented across all organizational units and activities, and are embedded in a university-wide culture of sustainability. We foster awareness and encourage both individuals and organizations to assume responsibility – for the sustainable treatment of our planet.
Our objectives
With its Sustainability Strategy, TU Dresden is committed to the following goals:
- TU Dresden ingrains an institutional culture of sustainability in all organizational structures and areas of activity at TU Dresden.
- TU Dresden reinforces individual sustainability awareness and the assumption of responsibility by all university members.
Measures
The working plan for achieving the sustainability goals for the years 2023–2030 comprises 80 measures for all six areas of activity. Below, we present three key priority measures for the Governance area of activity.
- Encouraging and empowering university members to act sustainably (short-term)
Establishment of decentralized sustainability ambassadors within TUD, and university-wide, cross-hierarchy training courses on sustainability with the aim of becoming active in sustainability issues and initiating and accompanying transformation processes. - Development of a climate-protection concept and establishment of climate-protection management at TUD (short to medium-term)
Gradual reduction of greenhouse gas emissions associated with the operations at TU Dresden, including the definition and monitoring of a reduction pathway with the aim of achieving climate-neutral operations by 2035. - Implementation of sustainability as an essential part of TUD’s institutional agenda (medium-term)
Integration of sustainability aspects into central strategic concepts, target agreements, the university development plan, and TUD’s mission statement with the aim of systematically considering and embedding sustainability as a cross-sectional task at all strategic levels.
