The Global Citizenship Lab is the mandatory introductory event of the certificate program "TUD Global Citizenship Certificate" for all TUD students/doctoral students and exchange students and a cooperation learning offer, among others in close cooperation with ZLSB within the framework of the state initiative ESD "SDG 4 - Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) in university teacher training in Saxony" (funded by Engagement Global through funds from the Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development).

In 2015, the global community adopted 17 sustainability goals to enable a fair and sustainable future. SDG 17 "Partnerships to achieve the goals" is one of the goals set. Partnership and participation are key values at local and global level in order to drive social change.

As part of the TUD Global Citizenship Lab in summer semester 2025, which has the motto Global Citizenship Education - "Partnership and Participation", we want to facilitate partnerships between participants and local stakeholders from various sectors in order to critically examine relevant socio-ecological issues, develop visions for the future and concrete opportunities for action for each individual. We will dive into local-global challenges, sustainability skills, cooperation in the civil society and scientific context as well as civic engagement from various perspectives. The event also offers an opportunity to network with students and stakeholders from a wide range of disciplines and organizations. The event is conceptually based in part on the competence model for sustainability by Brundiers et al. (2021) and thus part of the current piloting process of this concept to strengthen the sustainability competencies of its members at TU Dresden. This part of the event will be conducted by Dr. Rachel Bowden, ESD Advisor at the Center for Teacher Education and Educational Research (ZLSB) in cooperation with Advisors from the field of ESD.

In addition, you will receive input from partners, experts and activists from both academia and civil society. In addition to cognitive knowledge acquisition on various global topics, the focus is on social-emotional learning in the group, through the exchange of experiences from person to person and practical experimentation. Participants and experts learn from each other. A wide range of opportunities for education and engagement are demonstrated with the help of authentic insights into practice.

The "TUD Global Citizenship Certificate" for all TUD students, including doctoral and exchange students, promotes and recognizes international, global knowledge, experience, skills and local-global commitment of prospective TUD graduates. Developed by the International Office, the certificate is awarded on behalf of the University Executive Board. It represents a meaningful proof of qualification, from which the certificate holders will benefit personally and professionally in the long term. With successful participation in the Global Citizenship Lab, participants have already completed a central component of the certificate program.

We recommend that participants register for the certificate program at the same time. After registration, the modules can be completed at their own pace and in accordance with their studies or doctorate.

Parallel to the Sustainability Week, the hands-on festival will take place on the HSZ meadow from Wednesday to Friday, organized by the TU Environmental Initiative (tuuwi), to show what a vibrant campus can look like that all university members can help shape.

Bioblitz - Biodiversity in Botanical Gardens
Botanical Gardens are oases of biodiversity and provide valuable habitats and food for numerous animals, fungi and lichens. But which wild species can actually be found here? For "Botanical Garden Week 2025", many gardens in German-speaking countries are inviting visitors to a joint "Bioblitz" to explore this diversity.
All visitors are invited to collect and contribute their own observations via the free iNaturalist app. The more observations collected, the deeper the insight into diversity. The most diverse garden, the best photos and the most active observers will be honored by the Association of Botanical Gardens.

In the Alte Mensa, vegetarian and vegan dishes will be offered between June 16 and 18, 2025 as part of the Sustainability Week and the Join-in Festival.

The waste heat from the high-performance computing systems can be used flexibly as district heating for neighboring university buildings and for Dresden households by feeding it into the district heating network. Cooling energy is saved for the high-performance computing systems in summer and heating energy for surrounding buildings in winter. NVC requires courage. It is a way of life rather than just a communication method. And certainly not a soft-spoken one.

If a household appliance no longer works or sewing work is needed, a visit to the RepairCafé on campus can help. This self-help workshop helps visitors to hopefully get their broken appliance back in working order under the guidance of tech-savvy volunteers.

The next RepairCafé will take place on the campus on June 18th at 5:00 and 7:30 pm. Anyone who would like free support and advice on repairs is welcome. This RepairCafé takes place as part of the regular repair events, which are held every 3rd Tuesday of the month in the SLUB Makerspace in the Drepunct Library (Zellescher Weg 17). Not only the volunteers of the RepairCafé Dresden/ Freital initiative provide support, but also SLUB staff with knowledge and equipment ranging from 3D printers to sewing machines.

In addition to repairing things, the focus is also on the café character. Visitors to the RepairCafé will be able to talk to each other over coffee and cake.

This lecture is part of the lecture series "Air for Life", which is organized by TU Dresden together with Dresden Concept.

Wind is an invisible but powerful force in urban areas - it influences the urban climate, energy efficiency and comfort in our cities. But how can wind be used in a targeted manner in the city? The lecture shows the entire spectrum: from urban development with wind corridors, ventilation concepts and urban wind farms to building development with wind catchers, facade-integrated small wind turbines and aerodynamic architecture. Examples and innovative planning strategies will be used to explain how wind can be integrated into sustainable urban and building planning - as a challenge, but above all as a resource for a climate-friendly future.
