Inter-University Floor-Space Management TU Dresden and HTW Dresden
What is Floor-Space Management?
Floor space management is generally concerned with the sustainable and effective use of existing floor space resources. This involves avoiding vacancies and/or lack of space.
But why inter-university?
TUD and HTW have been commissioned by the Saxon Ministry of Science and Art (SMWK) to create a joint floor space management system. This should create the infrastructural conditions to strengthen teaching and research and thus make Dresden even more attractive as a research location for businesses and students.
TU Dresden (TUD) has 323,283m2 of main usable space (HNF) in properties of the Free State of Saxony and in rental space (as of 28.11.2014) The University of Applied Sciences Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Technik Dresden (HTW) has 49,221m2of HNF in properties of the Free State of Saxony and in rental space (as of 28th November 2014). In order to be able to successfully implement a pilot at the end of the limited project period at the end of 2016, the areas to be considered were initially limited to centrally administered practice rooms, seminar rooms and auditoriums of both institutions.
The spatial proximity of the two universities supports the project to work together within the framework of the project. However, scattered sites such as Tharandt (TUD) and Pillnitz (HTW) will be left out.
Objectives
According to the Framework Cooperation Agreement of 17th December 2012 between TUD and HTW, the cooperation between the two universities is to be intensified. The focus here will be on optimising administrative processes and compensating for bottlenecks in use. A reduction in rental space and improved utilisation of existing space are key project objectives.
Using a shared database system, the objective is to react more quickly and easily to bottlenecks and maintain smooth study, work and research operations.
Another objective of the project is to develop a concept for the creation of an application software for mobile devices (APP). The user should be given the possibility to find the nearest free location in TUD or HTW. With this objective, it will be possible for students to use a free seminar room as a study workspace.
