Science in Bautzen’s main square – TU Dresden researchers in dialog on climate change
The TUD Lectures+ series is coming to Bautzen on July 4, 2024 – directly to the Hauptmarkt in the center of the city. The event begins at 6:00 pm. Three TU Dresden researchers will take a closer look at the topic “Climate change as a challenge and opportunity for social cohesion” from meteorological, political and health perspectives. Climate change has long been identified as one of the greatest challenges to social cohesion, but it can also bring people together, as it affects all of us.
Prof. Matthias Mauder, Chair of Meteorology, Dr. Alice Freiberg, Head of the Research Area for Occupational, social and environmental epidemiology, and political scientist Dr. Manès Weisskircher explore what the term "climate change" actually means and how it can be approached scientifically. How does climate change impact our life and our health? Why is this often put on political agendas? And why does it sometimes have a polarizing effect?
However, unlike other lecture series, this one is based primarily on questions from the audience – who can submit their questions on cards. The specialists then answer these questions live and with no preparation – and will perhaps reach the limits of their knowledge themselves. Future Studies researcher Prof. Moritz Ingwersen and medical student Shaleen Paschke will moderate the event.
There will also be music in between from Kurkapelle Sonnendeck, who use musical instruments to create electronic music. The event will be recorded as a podcast and will be made available on major streaming services.
TUD Lectures + is a collaboration between Directorate University Culture, the Faculty of Medicine’s YOU ASK we Explain podcast, the Office for Academic Heritage of TU Dresden and the Gallery Ursula Walter. The series is also supported by Dresden University of Fine Arts. Several events will take take in Dresden, Bautzen, Pirna and Tharandt, focusing on topics such as science, dignity, pride, virtue, honor, truth, climate, homeland, migration, demography, identity, gender, and global politics with the aim of stimulating discussion. Many of the lectures are turned into podcasts in order to reach audiences beyond our regional borders.
