The Departments of Geosciences and Hydrosciences are located on the main campus Südvorstadt of the Technical University in Dresden. The Department of Forestry Sciences is located at the Tharandt Campus in Tharandt and can be easily reached by train and student ticket in about 15 minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
You apply for the Erasmus programme at your home university. Your Erasmus coordinator will nominate you if your application to TU Dresden is successful.
After receiving the nomination, you will receive a confirmation e-mail from the International Office of TU Dresden inviting you to apply to TU Dresden. Your application will then be reviewed by the responsible coordinator of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences. After a positive decision, the International Office will send you the notification of admission to the programme and the signed Learning Agreement. You will also receive further information on arrival, enrolment and the start of your studies.

The majority of courses (lectures, seminars, practicals), especially in the Bachelor's programme, are taught in German. Therefore, at least an intermediate level of German (B1) is required for successful participation in lectures held in German.
In the Master's programmes, some modules are also offered in English. Again, at least an intermediate level (B1) is required.
Exams, projects and coursework may be written in English after prior consultation with the examiners.
The relevant language certificates must be submitted with the application documents.
Information on preparatory or accompanying German courses can be found on the homepage of the TUDIAS language school. This service is free of charge.
You can choose from the full range of courses offered by the Faculty of Environmental Sciences. You do not have to specialise in one of the disciplines (Forestry, Geosciences or Hydrosciences).
As a Bachelor's student, you can also take courses from the Master's programme if you fulfil the necessary prerequisites. The courses of the master's programme in Tropical Forestry are an exception. For these, a completed Bachelor's degree is required. Conversely, as a Master's student, you can also take modules from the Bachelor's programme. If you are interested in the recognition of the module, you should discuss this with the your eramsus coordinator at your home university. The description of our modules can be found in the study documents of the individual programmes of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences.
Please indicate the module number and the name of the selected courses in the Learning Agreement.
You can take courses in all disciplines of the Faculty of Environmental Sciences (Forestry, Geosciences, Hydrosciences). When you register for courses and exams in SELMA, you will be shown the entire range of courses offered, sorted by subject, and you can choose freely.
When choosing a course, please note that our courses are offered at different locations. For example, forestry courses are held in Tharandt, outside Dresden.
Yes, you can write your thesis at the TU Dresden. Please look for a supervisor yourself. You can find thesis topics on the pages of the individual institutes/ professorships of our faculty.
For Erasmus funding, specific milestones must be agreed with your supervisors (at your home university and at TU Dresden) and documented in the Learning Agreement.
Registration for courses and exams takes place via SELMA. You will receive your login details from the International Office.
For some modules, a second enrolment takes place via the OPAL education portal. Here you will receive materials and information about short-term changes to the courses. Enrolment usually takes place after the first class of the module.
Note: For modules with excursions, please contact the module organisers directly when preparing the Learning Agreement. Such modules are indicated in the course catalogue.
During your stay, you can choose to stay in private accommodation or in student dormitories. You can find more information on the International Office website.
Please note that the Forest Sciences Campus is located in Tharandt. Tharandt can be reached by train from Dresden in about 15 minutes. The train is free with your student card.
The easiest way to get in touch with fellow students is to attend your courses. Our student representatives also provide access to various student mailing lists, such as WhatsApp groups.
There is also the Erasmus Student Network and other buddy and mentoring programmes to support you during your stay at TU Dresden.
