Admission requirements
The prerequisite for admission to the degree is a first higher education degree recognised in Germany as a professional qualification, an equivalent higher education degree or a degree from a state or state-recognised university of cooperative education in the field of geodesy and geoinformation, surveying or geomatics. A knowledge of English at a B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is required. Proof is provided by TOEFL or IELTS 5.0.
German language requirements
International applicants and German applicants with foreign school leaving certificate please find information here: language requirements.
Application hints and tips
If, at the time of the application, proof of the first degree that qualifies for a profession cannot yet be provided, applicants will be considered if 80% of the achievable points of the university degree can be proven by a certificate of the university of origin (Examining Office), on the basis of a completed module exam, assignment paper or colloquium. For Master study programmes with restricted admission (TU-NC), the certificate shall also include a provisional average mark, calculated on the basis of academic achievements already completed.
General information for the degree programme
The study programme involves theoretical foundations and practical applications of all areas of modern geodesy. This comprehends aspects of engineering surveying and scientific geodesy as well as geodetic responsibilities of public administration including land management and land policy issues.
The programme enables the students to solve diverse and complex geodetic tasks by applying appropriate methods and to transfer learned strategies to new problems. They have knowledge of the entire spectrum of modern geodetic techniques, including terrestrial, photogrammetric and satellite methods and they are familiar with recent trends in research and development. The students reliably know the theoretical and practical foundations of the spatial reference of information, especially the generation of global, regional and local geodetic networks and the processing of coordinates. This also includes the underlying mathematical methods and procedures of spatial information storage, management and processing.
Various teaching methods are offered, as for example geodetic field work, computer exercises, seminars, projects, and excursions. Thus, students learn to apply their acquired knowledge and methodological tools to scientific and practical problems and to perform research-based developments. Furthermore, by working in groups during field work and projects, students train to organize team work, to adapt to changing team situations, and to solve problems as a team.
Subject of the study programme is also the acquisition and training of personal skills such as learning foreign languages, and project and time management. The programme concludes with writing of a Master's thesis. Graduates find employment in academia, in public administration and in the private sector.
