Research Seminar 2021: "APRON PROCESSES FOR ELECTRIC FLYING"
TASK
Electric vehicles such as cars, bicycles with electric auxiliary power, and electric scooters are now part of the everyday picture in road traffic. In aviation, fully electric propulsion is still in the early stages of testing. Nevertheless, this technology is indispensable on the way to CO2-neutral air transport.
With new propulsion concepts, requirements, and necessities arise at the airport to handle these technologies. The currently prevailing infrastructure at the airport is not yet designed for electrically powered aircraft on a large scale. The task includes addressing the following research questions:
- What changes for the turnaround with an all-electric plane?
- Are there time differences in ground processes between electric and conventionally powered aircraft?
- What are the safety requirements for handling lithium-ion batteries?

Organization
The research seminar will be supervised by Prof. Fricke, who holds the chair, as well as Dr. Schultz and Mr. Evler. Dr. Bierwagen and Dr. Leemüller from Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS) supported the practice as well as Klemens Krys from Berlin Brandenburg Airport. We want to take this opportunity to thank them once again for their commitment!
In addition to dealing with technical issues, the aim of the seminar is to train the necessary project management skills. For the students, independent project work with the facets of time management and milestone fulfilment, self-organisation and teamwork are also at the forefront of their work. The necessary project management activities must be monitored, controlled and, if necessary, delegated by the project management.
