Viva voce (only applies to doctoral degree regulations from 31.01.2015)
A viva voce will only be held if you decide to complete your doctorate in accordance with Section 19 (3) of the Doctoral Degree Regulations in accordance with the Doctoral Degree Regulations dated 31.01.2015.
The viva voce (§ 11 of the doctoral degree regulations) is intended to show that the doctoral candidate is able to present a detailed argumentation in the scientific context of their dissertation.
The examination is held in two subjects of the Dresden University of Technology that relate to the dissertation topic. The requirements should go beyond those of the diploma examination.
The examiners in the viva voce are the professors responsible for the respective subject at the Technische Universität Dresden.
The viva voce takes place after acceptance of the dissertation and before the defense.
The candidate must be informed of the date in writing at least two weeks in advance.
The viva shall be conducted in German and shall not last longer than
90 minutes. It is to be completed as a non-public oral examination.
To pass the viva voce, the examinations in both subjects must be passed.
If the academic degree Dr. rer. pol. is sought, the viva voce can be replaced by two presentations at economics-oriented, international scientific conferences or two documented examinations in economics doctoral courses in which the Technische Universität Dresden is involved.
The Doctoral Committee shall decide on the recognition of the aforementioned achievements as a substitute for the viva voce upon application by the doctoral candidate at the start of the doctoral procedure.
