Additional Areas of Study within the B.A. Media Studies and Praxis
Students within the B.A. Media Research or Media Praxis programs are required to select an additional area of study in the amount of 35 credits. Available options are Political Science, Sociology, and Media Information.
The selection of an additional area of study is limited by the focus areas chosen in the core area of study.
Students who have chosen the core area Media and Public Opinion Research can choose between the following two additional areas of study:
- Sociology or
- Media Information
Students who have chosen the core area PR and Political Communication must choose the additional area of study of Political Science (Political Systems, International Relations, Political Theory, and Politics and the Public).
The additional area of study is formed from several modules. The grades from the modules are weighted according to the credits and are entered together with the grades from the core modules with a weighting of 0.85 to form the total grade for the bachelor’s exam (§11, Paragraph 4 Prüfungsordnung).
Additional Field of Study, Sociology
The additional field of study “Sociology” consists of three mandatory modules:
- Foundational Module: Introduction to Sociology/Sociological Theory (14 credits)
- Foundational Module: Microsociology (8 credits)
- Foundational Module: Macrosociology (8 credits)
In addition to that, the student must select one of two elective modules:
- Profile Module: Microsociology (5 credits)
- Profile Module: Macrosociology (5 credits)
Additional Field of Study, Media Information
The additional field of study “Media Information” consists of five mandatory modules:
- Introduction to Media Information (7 credits)
- Media and Media Trends (7 credits)
- Essentials of Design (7 credits)
- Introduction to Media Design (7 credits)
- Electronic Media (7 credits)
Additional Field of Study, Political Science
The additional field of study “Political Science” consists of three mandatory modules:
- Foundational Module: Political Systems (10 credits)
- Foundational Module: International Relations (10 credits)
- Foundational Module: Political Theory (10 credits)
In addition to that, the student must select one elective module:
- Profile Module: Political Systems (5 credits)
- Profile Module: International Relations (5 credits)
- Profile Module: Political Theory (5 credits)
Students who began after Winter Semester 12/13 can find the lectures corresponding to the appropriate modules in the Studienordnung.
