Poster: Democracy in retrospect
Because our poster no. 10 was so well received, we have designed another poster of this type by special request. It is called DEMOCRACY - WHAT HAVE I DONE FOR IT IN RETROSPECT?
Here is the PDF in DIN A 1 format (59.4 cm x 84.1 cm)
Didactic commentary
Democratic or political action negotiates and regulates the fundamental aspects of our life together. It is not uncommon for people to see their own opportunities to participate in this negotiation as something that only politicians do and over which they themselves have little influence. This is then associated with ideas such as: "Those up there will take care of it" or "What does all this have to do with me?" Our poster responds to such ideas by providing low-threshold access and making it clear that political action is not as abstract and complicated as we often think. It can be used in different settings and has the advantage of encouraging participants to think about the low-threshold opportunities they have to influence how we want to live together and to make visible the opportunities they themselves have made use of (often without understanding it as democratic action) in retrospect. This can encourage others to do the same and thus helps to strengthen democracy and democratic experience. If the poster is evaluated after a workshop, it can be useful to think with the participants about which activities could be added to the poster - or which might be perceived as out of place.
What else is needed
We think it makes sense to use this poster together with poster no. 10 and to provide space on a second open poster for additions or further development of the original poster. Otherwise, sticky dots or markers that can be used to make agreement visible can be useful. It is also nice to offer the poster lying on a table and to visualize the approvals with a bowl of dry beans or small stones.
