Network storage
The concept of the Faculty intends not to store the user data on the local hard drive of the terminal devices as much as possible. This significantly simplifies the exchangeability of the devices and furthermore, it warrants a high level of data security as well as the implementation of the decommissioning according to the data protection requirements at the end of life cycle.
The storage of all of the personal desktop settings (“user profile”) in the network is optionally possible so that during the work on the shifting computer workstations the personal environment is available everywhere. The storage of the personal data is generally only as part of the approved process descriptions according to §10 SächsDSG allowed.
The file service, due to the technical equipment of the professorship and the Faculty as well as of the resources in ZIH, is carried on in co-operation according to a unified concept. The file systems with flexible access rights are managed in a cross-faculty directory service. In doing so, the usage of the recourses of and for the whole Faculty becomes flexible.
The default access path for the user is the login via network client, which allows attaching the defined resources as network drives as well as the printer assignment and the driver installation, if necessary.
The following resources are available for the users:
- personal HOME-directory
- jointly usable folders of the working groups (“shared drives”)
- centrally provided data drives for the documents and the measure data
- specific network drives for the research projects of the overall task-force group; teaching, management, and administrative tasks
The setting of the project shared drives with the arbitrary fine granulated rights structure is possible on demand within a few minutes. All of the data on the network drives are the subject of the daily backup and the constant virus control.
Apart from the client based login, the following access possibilities from the local network or the VPN-network of the professorship, depending on requirements, are possible:
- FTP, FTP-S
- SSH, SFTP
- AFP
- CIFS, SAMBA
- HTTP (web access to the measure data and the documents without authentication)
- HTTPS ( NetStorage, Filr, WebDAV)
The access to the own documents is worldwide possible through encrypted HTTPS connection with the help of browser or synchronization client.
