Additional information for application
Thank you for your interest in studying at TU Dresden. To ensure that everything goes well with your application, please be sure to read the additional information compiled here for the relevant application semester or for individual study programs. This will help you to avoid mistakes when applying.
The TU Dresden is a member of the Arbeits- und Servicestelle für internationale Studienbewerbungen e.V. (uni assist). This means that applicants with a university entrance qualification acquired abroad or a foreign first university degree must apply via uni assist.
Here you will find a compilation of all important information about the application procedure.
Not all degree programs allow students to start in the summer semester. If a study program does NOT start in the summer semester, special rules apply.
Please check in the study information system of the TU Dresden whether the desired study program starts in the summer semester with the 1st semester. If this is not the case, applicants with sufficient knowledge of German for DSH (C1) or for direct studies may apply for a higher semester only. For this purpose, study achievements must already be available and a certificate of recognition must be submitted with the application. You have to apply for this at the examination office BEFORE your uni assist application. Please inform yourself in time about the crediting procedure! Applications for the 1st semester will be rejected!.
Furthermore, it is possible to apply for the preparatory German course and for the preparatory college/Studienkolleg. In this case, you must select the 2nd semester when applying via uni assist! Your application will then be processed normally for the German course or Studienkolleg. Attention: If you already submit a certificate of attendance of a C1 language course, your application can NOT be considered for the German course, as language skills for the DSH exam are already available. In this case your application will be rejected!
For some study programs, participation in the study-preparatory German course is not possible. Please check this on our information page before applying.
The application for the Studienkolleg or for the study-preparatory German course is always made via an application for the desired course of study. The application requirements and conditions for this apply. In the case of admission-restricted courses of study, the invitation to the entrance test will only be issued if you are also likely to receive a place in the regular admission procedure.
For some study programs it is not possible to attend the study-preparatory German course. Please refer to the information page on study preparation.
If the desired course of study is an admission-restricted course of study with an NC procedure and the study places are allocated via the DoSV procedure, EU applicants must enter a so-called BID and BAN when applying. You will receive these after registering with Hochschulstart.
Non-EU applicants apply only via uni assist and do not need the BID and BAN codes.
Information about the admission restriction of a degree program can be found in our Study Information System
If you have already achieved academic credits, you can have them recognized and apply for a higher semester. With the application documents, a certificate of recognition of academic records must be submitted. You have to apply for this at the examination office before your uni assist application. Please inform yourself in time about the crediting procedure!
Applicants for medical degree programs please refer to the box "Applications for study programs of the medical faculty" for more information.
To be considered for applications for a higher semester: With the application documents, a certificate of recognition or an application for recognition of academic records must be submitted. The application for recognition must be submitted to the Examination Office of the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering until 15.6. for wintersemester and 15.12. for summersemester at the latest. Please inform yourself in time about the crediting procedure!
Applications for higher semesters which are received by uni assist after 15.6. or 15.12. without the application for recognition of academic achievements having been submitted to the faculty will be rejected.
If you have already completed a degree in mechanical engineering or process and natural materials engineering, you can apply directly for the postgraduate program. Please inform yourself in the study information system.
Please also note the information on applications for the summer semester on this page!
For applications for medicine, human medicine and dentistry, please note the following rules:
- EU applicants for the 1st semester in the winter semester do NOT apply via uni assist, but at Hochschulstart.
-
Non-EU applicants with foreign university entrance qualification for the 1st subject semester for the winter semester apply via uni assist.
- Sufficient German language skills must already be available for studying. Participation in the preparatory German course/Propädeutikum or in the DSH examination is not possible. Please inform yourself about the required German language skills on the homepage of the TU Dresden.
- For applications for a higher semester (as academic achievements have already been made), the crediting notification of the State Examination Office for Academic Health Professions (Landesprüfungsamt für Akademische Heilberufe, LPA) must be submitted with the application documents. Please find information on the homepage of the study program.
