September 25, 2024: The third GorbitzDialog focused on the meteorological phenomenon of cold air currents near the ground, which can cool down cities like Dresden, especially on hot summer nights. In the dialog they moderated, students from the 9th grade science profile presented their project to measure such currents in the Gorbitz district using a probe, some of which they had made themselves. They then met with Dr. Ronald Queck, research associate at the Chair of Meteorology. Chair of Meteorology at TU Dresden, about their goals, methods and problems in the project phase. Dr. Queck then delved deeper into the topic and reported on his research. The evening was rounded off with a discussion with the audience. The "GorbitzDialog" cooperation project between the Dresden-Gorbitz grammar school and TU Dresden aims to facilitate exchange between pupils and scientists, raise awareness of science in the (district) society and promote the STEM field.
August 2024: Four schools of the Semper Group are cooperation schools of TU Dresden: the Berufliches Gymnasium, the Semper-Gymnasium, the Semper-Oberschule and the Melli-Beese-Oberschule. On the occasion of the cooperation school meeting, the contract was handed over to the Vice-Rector Academic Affairs, Prof. Michael Kobel, by the school management teams present.
August 29, 2024: Developments in the field of artificial intelligence are rapid and increasingly require a critical examination of the potentials and risks they entail. Everyday school life is also increasingly influenced by these advances. How AI will change the institution of school and teaching in the future and why students should gain insights into science and research at an early stage was the topic of the TU Dresden network meeting with its cooperation schools on 29.08.2024. Appropriately, the meeting was held on the premises of the CeTI (Centre for Tactile Internet with Human-in-the-Loop) in the Barkhausen Building. The first part of the event focused on school projects and the exchange of experiences and wishes. The second part involved a visit to the CeTI Bar, where the capabilities of so-called collaborative robots ("cobots") were brought to life. In this real laboratory, the participating cooperation partners got to know the laboratory and current research on human-machine interaction over a snack. Following on from this, there was time for discussion and networking as well as a joint tour of the campus.
June11 - 12, 2024: With a focus on the topic of 'sustainability', scientists and prospective teachers from TU Dresden visited Oberland-Gymnasium Seifhennersdorf to conduct exciting workshops with 9th grade students. The main aim was to encourage the pupils to get involved by promoting dialog and creating links to their everyday lives. The thematic framework for this was provided by environmental events, human intervention in nature and methods for sustainable action.
Oberland-Gymnasium Seifhennersdorf has been a TU Dresden cooperation school since 2023.
This project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and the Free State of Saxony as part of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State governments.
March 20, 2024: In the second GorbitzDialog, the topic of "Blühwiese" was discussed in a moderated dialogue based on the two projects of TU Dresden and Gymnasium Dresden-Gorbitz. The topics of "sustainability" and "biodiversity" were central to the projects and the discussion. The students of the "Green Gorbitz" project and Lisa Junge, a research assistant at the Chair of Operations. Business Management, esp. Environmental Management, and member of the Biodiversity Working Group at TU Dresden, reported on the process from the idea to the realization of the respective flowering meadow and answered questions from the audience. The event builds a bridge between school and science, enables an exchange between experts and students and promotes dialog with citizens.
March 11, 2024: At the 2nd Good Practice Day "School Projects", around 50 scientists and employees of TU Dresden as well as school administrators and teachers from Saxon schools came together to get to know each other, learn from each other, present their own successful projects and gain partners for new ideas. More information and impressions can be found in this review.
The German School Temperley has been a TU Dresden cooperation school since February 2024. The signed contract was officially handed over to the Vice-Rector Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Kobel, at the end of February 2024 during a school visit by 23 students from the German School Temperley. We look forward to even closer cooperation in the future!
