Two years of teaching mission statement at the TU Dresden
For more than two years now, the TU Dresden's teaching mission statement has formed the basis for the further development of teaching at the TUD. The 13 fields of action defined therein set out the starting point for further teaching development and the topics that will provide impetus in the coming years.
The fields of action are not structured hierarchically and cover a wide range of topics. The first pages of the teaching mission statement are dedicated to socially responsible teaching, skills-oriented teaching and the professionalization of teaching. This is followed by explanations on research-oriented teaching, interdisciplinarity, internationality and diversity-sensitive teaching. The fields of digitality and sustainability are supplemented by the (further) development of degree programs, quality management in teaching, the teaching and learning campus and lifelong learning.
The teaching mission statement is available for download and forms the foundation for the further work of the sTUDium 3.0 teaching strategy.
Background and outlook
In 2022, the Vice-Rector Academic Affairs and the sTUDium 3.0 teaching strategy team derived work assignments from the teaching mission statement, the vision for teaching and the future labs. The assignments were processed by three cross-status working groups in 2023. By the end of last year, 30 proposed solutions had been developed and presented to the university public.
By mid-2024, the teaching strategy team will now develop a standardized working paper for the sTUDium 3.0 teaching strategy. This document will contain the action plans that will be developed based on the solutions recommended by the teaching strategy board and the comments of the university public.
This is followed by a presentation to the extended Rectorate of TU Dresden and several feedback loops with all stakeholders. The document will then be presented to the Senate in the second half of the year with all the comments and stakeholder contributions incorporated. The aim is to have a teaching strategy for TU Dresden adopted by the Senate in December 2024.
