Proofreading & Revision
You have finished writing your report, seminar paper or thesis, but can't find anyone to read it and give you feedback? You've delved so deeply into the topic of your paper - and you're unsure whether anyone other than you will even understand your text? Then get exemplary text feedback in the writing consultation and take advantage of our pool of of volunteer proofreaders!
Proofreading assistance is for students who have questions about the spelling, grammar, and understandable style of their writing assignment. To overcome these challenges, a dedicated, often retired, volunteer reads your entire text and provides advice and assistance.
If you are interested, please send an email to . We will first invite you to a writing consultation to discuss your exact concerns, and then refer you to a person from our proofreader pool. Proofreading help works only when there are at least three weeks left until the writing project is due or if you still have enough time. It is also possible that you submit individual chapters one after the other after prior consultation.
You can also find more information in our news article "Writing Center: Offer of proofreading assistance for students of the TU Dresden" under "Aktuelles".

Writing Consultation
The writing consultation is an individual discussion with our trained writing peer tutors on everything that is currently bothering you about your current writing project (thesis, seminar paper, project work, etc.). If you have questions about linguistic or stylistic revision, we will give you exemplary feedback or make sample corrections based on a short text excerpt (help for self-help).
Unlike proofreading help, you will not receive feedback on your entire text, but you can bring drafts of your text or just the topic of your work to the writing consultation and use the feedback for your further writing process. In addition, you can discuss your working process, address all your questions and possibly concerns, and get tips on methods, e.g. how to find a question or how to develop the thread for your text in a meaningful way.
You can also find specific information about text feedback in this FAQ:
We can give you a feedback on specific parts of your text. This does no include editorial or proofreading services. The aim of a feedback is to give a constructive critique on your text, so that you can use the information gained during the writing consultation to continue working on your text. In example corrections, the focus could be to look for reoccurring language mistakes and then to help you with the correction.
Maybe you already have a certain idea on what you would like feedback. That can be your style, the structure of the text or your argumentation. You can tell us your wishes via email. If you’re not sure, you can get an “overall” feedback on your text from the writing tutor, they will talk about any aspect that they noticed.
Please note that we do not provide feedback on non-academic texts like CVs, applications or email-correspondance. If you are interested in the latter, please seek other support centers like the Career Service.
For the feedback, please send us your text at least 48 hours before your appointment. You can send us up to three pages. If you already have a structure, a title or a research question, please send them to us as well. If you don’t have any of these, please describe in 3 to 5 short sentences in which direction you plan to take your research. This way, we can understand your text better.
If possible, bring your text to your appointment printed out or on your computer.
You can also come to a writing consultation to receive spontaneous feedback. Please bring your text printed out or on your computer as well.
When sending your text to our email address , please address it to the Writing Center and set the subject to “Text feedback + your date of the appointment”. We will forward your text confidentially to the writing tutor responsible.
We are looking forward to seeing you!
