Former tutors report
THE BEST STUDENT JOB
Supervising exchange students was the best student job I ever had. Not only the international exchange, the many new exciting acquaintances, but also the many great events made the job so incredibly enriching. I not only organized these events, but also experienced them together with the exchange students and thus collected many great moments. So I got to know completely new things and activities in Dresden that I would never have afforded otherwise. We visited places like the Semper Opera, the observatory in Radebeul, the Elbe castles and even the Europapark. It was a wonderful time where I was not only able to improve my foreign language skills, but also make great memories. The international exchange was a complete success for me because I now have contacts in many parts of Latin America. Friendships have developed with the students and I will visit one or the other student in their home countries. All in all, it was the best student job I could ever imagine and I recommend everyone to apply for it and take the chance to have the same great experiences.
Lena Zimmermann, KOSPIE Latin America Tutor 2022-2023
KOSPIE TUTOR 2022/23
I had already held a wide variety of jobs within the TU Dresden, but the job as a KOSPIE tutor was without a doubt the best and most varied. Working with the foreign students not only gave me the opportunity to get to know foreign languages and cultures, but also to discover Dresden itself all over again. Together with the exchange students, we visited many different places and events in Dresden where I myself had never been before, even after 5 years of studying here, such as a ballet at the Semper Opera House or the glowing Christmas Garden at Pillnitz Palace. I was able to further improve my Spanish skills and made great new friends. I was also able to gain valuable experience in organising team activities and get to know other areas of the university. I really enjoyed the friendly and flexible cooperation with the staff at the International Office and would do the job for another semester without hesitation if I hadn't already completed my own studies. Therefore, I recommend everyone to apply for the job in order to have the same great experience.
Matthias Frey, KOSPIE Latin America Tutor 2022-2023
TUTOR FOR KOSPIE-TUNISIA 2023
Working as a KOSPIE tutor for a group of Tunisian students (from February 2023 to July 2023) has been very enriching for me on various levels. Working with the scholarship holders has given me many wonderful insights into Tunisian culture and perspective - as conventional as this statement may sound, it is true and encourages me to (hopefully) go on a trip to Tunisia myself soon. Furthermore, at the same time, the work has allowed me to see German culture through different eyes and to become more aware and appreciative of my own traditions and habits. As a student who moved to Dresden during the COVID 19 pandemic, working with the KOSPIE scholarship holders also gave me the opportunity to discover unknown facets of Dresden and Saxony for myself - for example, on a guided tour of Görlitz, a visit to VW's Transparent Factory or a picnic in Saxon Switzerland.
In addition to getting to know wonderful open-minded people whom I helped with questions, I also gained valuable experience in organising group activities as well as knowledge regarding other bureaucratic processes (e.g. the visa renewal process).
It was also particularly pleasant that I was able to arrange my working hours almost absolutely freely - however, it should be noted that there can be a particularly large amount of work, especially during the exam phases (student arrival time in February & scholarship expiry in July)!
In addition, the working period from February to July was perfect for me, as it means I can start my semester abroad in September without any problems!
Overall, working as a tutor for the KOSPIE programme was a highly recommendable experience, especially because of the exciting cultural experiences as well as the people who shared them with me.
