Scholarship- and Mentoring Programme (DAAD-STIBET)
Financed by the STIBET-Programme of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the International Office of TU Dresden is offering Scholarships for Study Completion and Scholarships for Highly Committed Students as well as Scholarships for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities to highly qualified international students of TU Dresden. Study applicants (applicants for a study place at TU Dresden) who are not yet enrolled at TU Dresden at the time of the scholarship application cannot be supported with these scholarships.

Scholarships for Study completion:
International students of TU Dresden on the level of a diploma, bachelor, master or state exam student
- International students in doctoral studies, Information for doctoral students who would like to apply for a scholarship is available at the Graduate Academy of TU Dresden
- International Students with multiple nationalities, when one of them is German
- Exchange students, who only study one or two semesters at TU Dresden and do not obtain a degree at TU Dresden, are not eligible to apply for those scholarships
- Study applicants who apply for a place to study at TU Dresden and who are not enrolled at TU Dresden at the time of the scholarship application cannot be supported with these scholarships
A prerequisite for funding is that:
- the student has performed well (average grade of at least 2.5 achieved so far)
- successful completion of studies is expected within one year (at least 65% of the credits of the total studies have been completed or thesis has already been registered).
- no income from paid employment or social benefits (BAföG) exceeding 538 euros gross
- no other scholarships during the funding period (regardless of the type and amount of the scholarship payments)
- no graduation scholarship has been awarded before/during the funding period (e.g. STIBET or GFF)
- the students are enrolled during the funding period and do not permanently stay outside their place of study (NOTE: stays abroad are only possible within the framework of a compulsory stay according to the study regulations; in the case of leaves of absence, written proof must be provided by the examination office/faculty that a degree is also possible within a semester of leave)
Scholarship rate: EUR 300,- per month
Funding period:
1 April - 30 September (summer semester)
1 October - 31 December (winter semester)
Duration of scholarship:
3 months (maximum until the deadline for the submission of final thesis), a prolongation is not possible
1 February until 8 March for the funding period 1 April - 30 September (summer semester)
1 August until 8 September for the funding period 1 October - 31 December (winter semester)

The selection committee consists of at least three members of the International Office of TU Dresden.
Scholarships are awarded on the basis of a ranking list. The ranking of the scholarship applicants is based on the average grade of the study achievements and on the study progress in percent. The basis for this is the information provided by the Examinations Office (status of submission by the application deadline.) If the average grade cannot be determined by the Examinations Office, the average grade is then calculated by the International Office in a simplified procedure (= all grades are equivalent).
Scholarships for Highly Committed Students (Students with voluntary activities):
International students of TU Dresden on the level of a diploma, bachelor, master or state exam student
- International students in doctoral studies (doctoral students)
- International Students with multiple nationalities, when one of them is German
- Exchange students, who only study one or two semesters at TU Dresden and do not obtain a degree at TU Dresden, are not eligible to apply for those scholarships
- Study applicants who apply for a place to study at TU Dresden and who are not enrolled at TU Dresden at the time of the scholarship application cannot be supported with these scholarships
A prerequisite for funding is that:
- the student has performed well (average grade of at least 2.5 achieved so far)

a voluntary or low-paid commitment on international activities at TU Dresden, such as mentoring international students, assisting in cultural events or tandem/mentoring programmes. Students can for example participate in the following initiatives or associations (international reference assumed):
University groups at TUD, Fachschaftsrat des Studiengangs, STURA (Referat Ausländische Studierende), Campusbüro Uni mit Kind, Studentenwerk Dresden
- no income from paid employment or social benefits (BAföG) exceeding 538 euros gross
- no other scholarships during the funding period (regardless of the type and amount of the scholarship payments)
- the students are enrolled at TU Dresden during the funding period
Active engagement in an international context at the TU Dresden is the basis for an application for the engaged student scholarship. Such a commitment is often also referred to as an honorary position.
The engagement should fulfill the following criteria:
- it must have at least during the semester before the start of the scholarship (future engagements cannot be counted)
- it officially counts as an volunteer position (= activities that are carried out for others in a self-determined and non-profit manner and are oriented towards the common good) and is only marginally remunerated, if at all.
- it should have a minimum duration of 6 months. In the case of a shorter commitment, a high level of impact must be demonstrated. (e.g.: a large-scale fundraising campaign).
- written proof from a TU internal institution or association about the duration, scope and nature of the social or intercultural commitment must be submitted (with official letterhead of the institution and contact details of the person issuing the certificate)

This must be provided with an offical letter head and the contact details of a representativ of the TU internal organization.

Scholarships for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities
International students of TU Dresden on the level of a diploma, bachelor, master or state exam student
The Scholarships for the Promotion of Equal Opportunities can be used to support students with special challenges and life circumstances (e.g. due to a refugee background: refugee students from Ukraine and other war and crisis zones, due to health restrictions or disability, due to special care situations of their own children or due to family members in need of care as well as the strong dependence on gainful employment during studies).
The aim of awarding scholarships is to ensure that international students have a fair chance of success, taking appropriate account of unequal socio-cultural starting situations.
- International students in doctoral studies
- International Students with multiple nationalities, when one of them is German
- Exchange students, who only study one or two semesters at TU Dresden and do not obtain a degree at TU Dresden, are not eligible to apply for those scholarships
- Study applicants who apply for a place to study at TU Dresden and who are not enrolled at TU Dresden at the time of the scholarship application cannot be supported with these scholarships
- At least three successfully completed examinations at TU Dresden
- Enrollment at TU Dresden during the funding period and stay at the place of study (no stay abroad)
- no other scholarships during the funding period (regardless of the type and amount of the scholarship payments)
- no income from paid employment or social benefits (BAföG) above 634 euros gross
- special challenges and life circumstances, for example (at least one characteristic must be fulfilled):
- Refugee background (refugee students from Ukraine and other war and crisis zones)
- Caring for children up to the age of 12 in your own household (especially single parents)
- Degree of disability of at least 50% or chronic illness
- Caring for first and second-degree relatives
- strong dependence on gainful employment during studies
- Other special challenges and life circumstances
Please describe in the application form to what extent you are affected by one of the special challenges listed in the call for applications and enclose suitable evidence with the application. This can be, for example: severely disabled person's pass, medical certificates, official documents, child's birth certificate, etc. Information that is not necessary may be blacked out.

- Proof in German or English of the special challenges and circumstances (official documents, certificates or other evidence), for example:
- Proof of application for asylum or other suitable proof of refugee background, copy of current residence status, for refugees from third countries (citizenship other than the country from which they were forced to flee): copy of the last residence permit or other official proof from the country from which they have to flee
- Birth certificate(s) of the children and, in the case of single parents, a copy of the tenancy agreement
- Proof of a degree of disability of at least 50% (severely disabled person's pass) or medical certificate of chronic illness
- Medical certificate of the existing disability or chronic illness with a description of the associated restrictions
- Proof of the person in need of care, registration certificate showing the address of the person in need of care, birth certificate(s) stating the relationship
- Proof of other special challenges and life circumstances
