General information for the degree programme
The programme aims to educate executives in the development of scientifically based, innovative and sustainable management concepts for natural forests, forest plantations and other wood formations, agroforestry systems and urban green spaces, and for controlling their use and maintenance.
Special emphasis is given to flexibly adapting to the changing conditions of society and the manifold interactions among human beings and forest formation development, with a multi-disciplinary approach.
The two-year course altogether comprises 120 ECTS points structured as three semesters of classroom studies and one semester of elaboration and defence of the master's thesis. Optional compulsory modules enable the students to identify and design a particular individual profile. The research plan is prepared to effectively collect and analyse primary data from the late third up to the early fourth semester.
The contents are climate and ecology including functions and performances of ecosystems, forest-related development policy and forest culture with models and instruments of rural development; assessment, growth and evaluation of forest resources; forest utilization with specific characteristics, harvest, transportation, storage, processing and marketing of forest products, economics and management of forest resources, forms of organization, management systems and cooperation models and their analysis, integrated management of vegetation, soil and water in catchments; silviculture and protection of biodiversity in natural forests, silviculture and forest protection in forest plantations and agroforestry; urban und peri-urban tree management in various contexts as well as forest management strategies for natural forest and forest plantations in the tropics, the spatial and temporal bringing together of various management strategies and land use management as well as theoretical and methodically knowledge of planning at project and landscape level, modelling, communication, conflict management and about scientific working.
Study contents
